Bryant Peak 5801 ft

April 24, 1999

This was supposed to be a climb of Kaleetan Peak with the Tacoma branch of the Mountainers, but when we reached Hemlock Pass we witnessed a large wet slide avalanche down the south face, our intended route. So we decided to climb Bryant instead. We had seen evidence of other avalanches on the approach from Denny Creek.

From Hemlock Pass, it was an easy climb up the forested ridge and then open slopes to the summit. The views of Chair, Kaleetan, and the Tooth were great! The only bad thing about this trip was that I was trying out my new plastic boots, but my gaiters wouldn't fit them so I ended up with a lot of water in my boots! Slosh, slosh, slosh, all the way back to the cars!
