Hyak Dawn Patrol

Snoqualmie Pass, WA

February 1, 2013

Bryon Free and I met at the Hyak Parking lot to do a little morning telemark skiing and splitboarding. I was excited to finally be skinning with my new split board! I had ridden it several times but I hadn't had the opportunity to break out the skins until now.

It had rained the night before then froze so the conditions were less than perfect but Bryon and I aren't ones to back down from a challenge! On previous trips we had summited the Castle in the Tatoosh Range in a storm and climbed Liberty Bell when a fall storm dumped several inches of snow on it.

As we started to skin up the groomed cat track, a patroller walked up to us and let us know that Bryon's dog wasn't allowed on the slopes so Matilda had to wait in the car. As it turned out, her wait wasn't long because the conditions were so poor we only took one run!

Thanks Bryon for a character building morning of snow-sliding! Next time I'll join you with my teleskis so I can take another lesson!
