Ingalls Peak, North Peak (7662ft)

East Ridge 5.7

July 21, 2004

Today I climbed the East Ridge route on the north peak of Ingalls Peak with fellow Mountaineers Alex, Jared, and Daniel.

Daniel's trip report and photos can be viewed here.

Ingalls Lake from below Ingalls Peak
We were able to avoid the snow by staying to the left. Daniel almost got hit by loose rock though
Alex leading the first pitch
The second pitch had an exciting traverse at the end
The third pitch started with an exposed traverse, although the climbing was not difficult
Pitch three was my favorite with a fun climb up a ridge
The fourth pitch had a fun ascending traverse that was easy to runout

start hiking: 8am

start climbing pitch1 11:44am

Summit 2:45pm

descent from summit 3:50pm

arrive at car 7:05pm?

Pitch1- from ledge with large flat boulder, climb and right to notch, then climb left up to ridge proper.

Pitch2- climb downward steep, sloping steps then scramble down to short, exposed ridge then step across to large boulders for belay.

Pitch3- climb right, around corner to face with small, blocky holds. Continue rightward ascending traverse to top of face then climb

down notch and through tunnel to belay if rope drag permits.

Pitch4- again climb rightward ascending traverse up to large boulders below crux corner.

Pitch5- climb up 5.7 crack to gain easy ledges leading to summit.

Shooting Stars grew near this stream in the meadow below Ingalls Pass
Lupine were in abundance
Wildflowers were found all along the trail
