Via Ferrata in the Vienna woods
Mödling, Austria

While on our vacation in Austria, Kim and I got to climb a fun via ferrata outside of Vienna. We had planned to
climb a more difficult via ferrata outside of Innsbruck but we got rained out, so we were happy to find this one.
It was by chance that while we were sightseeing in Salzburg that we came upon a father and son just finishing up
a via ferrata near one of the parking garages that are built into the surrounding mountains. I asked the man if he knew
of any via ferratas in the area and he said that all of the really good ones are down south in the Tirol region, but he asked
for my email address and said that he would send me a link to a web site that listed many routes in Austria. So it was
from this website he sent me,
http://www.bergsteigen.at/klstgstartr.html that I found this route.
Since the website is in German, we had some trouble finding the route. We drove south of Vienna to the little towns of Mödling and Hinterbrühl
and looked for cliffs but ended up driving up a dirt road to a house where we were greeted by two barking dogs and two friendly men who directed us
to drive further down the road to where the route was.
