Mt Pugh (7201 ft)

NW Ridge

June 16, 2002

I talked with Jake on Friday and he asked if I was interested in doing a "conditioning" climb. I said "sure, sounds good", then when he told me what he had in mind, I said "Pugh? Sure, that'd be fun. I'll pick you up at 8am Sunday". I was busy all day Saturday helping some friends move, so I it was around 11pm when I got home (tired and sore) and looked up the information on Pugh. The first thing that jumped out at me was the elevation: 5000ft gain! Holy smokes. I immediately checked the weather to see if I could back out on account of bad weather. ;) No such luck. "Early morning clouds turning to sunshine in the afternoon". Nuts! This is just about perfect weather for climbing. At this point the only thing I could do was to pack as light as possible to lessen the inevitable pain that I'd be feeling tomorrow getting my tired body up 5000ft. More to come....

We ascended the left snow slope in the photo.

Peter verifying that we are on the right summit.
